Markers

Remember that the person whose ball is farthest from the hole is the one with the honors of Putting first. If someone Putts before you, mark the spot and take your ball. However, if your marker is in the way of another's Putt, ask the Golfer if he wants you to move it. If he says yes, put your marker one clubhead from its original position. Make sure you move it away and not closer to the hole. After the other person take his shot, move your marker back to its original position. Forgetting to replace your marker will mean Two Penalty Strokes. When it is already your turn to Putt, replace your ball by putting it just in front of your marker and then slide your marker back and take it.

When it comes to buying golf equipment, it is important to realize what you really need as to what you think you need. A common mistake that average golfers make is seeing a PGA Pro using a particular club or type of equipment and they feel they have to get it. These products could be for you, but why should you waste money on something just because a certain player is using it? The only way to find out is to really look at what you need; you should be spending your money on what you want, not on something youre being sold on. Many times we see golfers go out and buy clubs because of the size of the head or on how other players play with that particular club. No golfers are the same, and so many elements come into play when determining an individuals golf game. While your friend or a PGA Pro can be tearing up the course with a particular product, chances are you wont have the same result. Regardless of if you are better or not, each player type must use th e equipment that truly suits their needs, not for the look or mentality that you need to go out and buy something because people swear by it. So next time you are at the store looking at new equipment, think about whether you are buying this because you need it or you need it.

New World Number One?

Apparently, World No. 2 Sergio Garcia is within striking distance of overtaking Tiger Woods for the No. 1 spot. A victory next week for Garcia, plus a second or third the week after, and a poor showing by Woods, would catapult Garcia close to the No. 1 spot. More.

Figuring out the World Rankings in golf is like figuring out how the TARP money will be spent on failing banks. That Tiger Woods could have been gone from golf for 8 months and still retain his No. 1 status does raise some questions about the meaning of the rankings. Could Tiger be the No. 1 player in the world, for example, if he took an entire year off? I am in favor of making the rankings reflect more the current standings.

That Sergio Garcia is No. 2, when Paddy Harrington had a better year than he did in 2008, also raises questions about the rankings. Something seems not right here.
